CAR RECEIVING THE AIRBORNE FLAG, 1969, GRIESBACH

This great historic photo was sent to me by Mr. Mike Sikora.

He writes:

"I am attaching a photo of the CAR receiving the Airborne flag in 1969. You can see the Garrison church in the background. Note that the Canadian Forces green uniforms are absent. We were the last unit to receive them. I recall shooting rabbits and prairie chicken in this area. I also served with 1 PPCLI at Griesbach in 1967-68 when this was the PPCLI home station".

Blog comment: The red brick building situated to the far right of picture seems to be today's MGen Griesbach Elementary School.

"Just viewed your Blog on Greisbach and found some photos you may be interested in.  I'm Michel Guitard and I was posted there from 1973 to 1976.  I was with the french 1st Commando.  Spall Block was where I lived.  Of course the Rosalyn was our watering hole whenever we got back from exercise.  If I'm not mistaken, that plane was at the entrance to Greisbach. Or was it Namao?

 
   I wish I had more to pass on.  I hope to see more pictures on your Blog.  Brings back some great memories.

AB REGIMENT HQ & SIGS SQN, 1971-73

"Just checking out the AB Regt  Assoc site and noticed you were looking for old photos of units etc. at Griesbach in early days.

 

I served with 1 AB Battery from 1969 to 1971 and as Regimental Training Officer in AB Regiment HQ & Sig Sqn from 1971 to 1973.  Thought I would send along a couple of old photos I found of the Sqn and at the nosedock in Namao.

 

I am driving out to Edm next Tues for 40th reunion - should be a great time - it will be interesting to see the changes after all these years."
